Hello again! Ok, so, my title, 7 best books of ALL Time maaaaay be a little bit… well, exaggerated. I mean, I am going to share with you MY 7 best books of all time…. up until today. I love to read! As we move forward into spring, I know that Beach Reads will be something on everyone’s minds! I’m always looking for new books and ways to expand my mind. I will link all of these books to my goodreads list, so you can read full reviews or order the book if you wish! I am not affiliated with goodreads in any way, so your clicks or orders are just that: yours. I don’t earn anything, but I do love that website/app.
Let’s dive right in!! I would like to note that for this post, I will not include any books that are part of a series. I’m a huge Harry Potter fan and that would basically be my entire list! I also LOVED Wicked, but the second book in the series, Son of a Witch, failed to hold my attention. I have read the Hunger Games series over and over, I don’t even know why, but I love it. Ok, here we go!
- Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides
This book, I’m not even sure why I picked it up in the book store. Maybe I was in an airport? I can’t remember. But I devoured it. The book spans generations and is so well written. It was not at all what I expected (not that I really had any expectations since I just picked it up on a whim), but I was so pleasantly surprised and intrigued. I think in all honesty, this book was my first real literary experience with sexuality being anything other than male or female. 10/10, would recommend. - The Little Friend by Donna Tartt
Donna Tart’s writing is phenomenal, deliciously plump adjectives rolling off the pages. Each character was so incredibly complex, right down to the children that aren’t even really in the storyline. The book is 600 or so pages, and each one is like a specialty dessert, oozing sugary words and long, overly descriptive sentences. This book is phenomenal and at the end, I felt like I was mourning the loss of the characters because the book was over. I love Donna Tartt, and I definitely think you should read this book. - The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
The second book by Ms. Tartt on my list, and it is even better than the last. This book… is long. It is glorious. It is bizarre. It is a MUST READ. I want a sequel. A prequel. I want more. The character Boris, is disgusting, he is shady, I fell in love with him, and I want to know him always. If you read one single book on this list….. this one needs to be it. - The Women’s Room by Marilyn French
My mom had me read this book in college. I started off in a community college that my mom taught at, and the library had to borrow it from a larger library in Little Rock. SO worth it. If you believe in girl power, have an interest in social change, and have a love for incredibly deep characters, this book is for you. I will have my daughters read this book before they graduate high school. Thanks, mom. I have also recently borrowed this from my local library (they also had to get it from a library in Little Rock! what is up with that!?) - Sickened by Julie Gregory
This book is a memoir, of Julie’s Muchausen by proxy childhood. It is deeply disturbing and sad, and disgusting, and awe inspiring once you arrive at the end. I picked this book up years ago, as I love memoirs of the weird and disturbed. I was on an Augusten Burroughs kick and looking to branch out into something else kind of dark and twisted humor-wise. This is not funny but it is quite riveting.
- The Shack by William Paul Young
This book will change the way you think about God. I read this book with a group of people in church, as suggested by our Priest. I will read it again and again. - The Desire Map by Danielle LaPorte (and you)
I am a self help book junkie so I couldn’t end this list without one. This book (don’t forget its a workbook, too) will help you narrow down your core desired feelings and help you begin living your life in a way that your core desired feelings are apparent and fulfilled on the daily. This is a great read/workbook and I come back to it often.
Well, there you have it. My 7 best books of all time (up to now). I’m currently reading You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero, well, I started a while back and then got derailed with some juicy fiction but now I’m back to it. I love to read and lately the rainy weather has been super conducive to that hobby! What are your favorite books? What are you reading right now?
Make sure you add me on Goodreads so we can keep up with each other!
I LOVE several of the books on your list, especially Middlesex. I will be picking up The Goldenfinch stat.
The Women’a Room Is a game changer. Thank you for sharing these! – Alice
